Shares of some top coal companies were up at the close of trading:
Arch Coal rose $.17 or .8 percent, to $21.94.
Consol Energy rose $.84 or 1.9 percent, to $44.19.
Massey Energy rose $1.11 or 3.8 percent, to $30.47.
Peabody Energy rose $1.02 or 2.5 percent, to $41.22.
