Shares of some top durable goods companies were up at the close of trading:
Black & Decker rose $14.66 or 31.0 percent, to $62.00.
Snap-On rose $1.66 or 4.6 percent, to $37.73.
Stanley Works rose $4.54 or 10.1 percent, to $49.69.
Whirlpool rose $2.93 or 4.1 percent, to $74.39.
